Halloween Party

Let me first start by saying "woot!" to all the Obama supporters out there. Ryan and I went right after work vote and came home shortly after (after of course hitting up chick-fil-a for a free chicken sandwich I'd heard incorrect rumors about) and crashed on the couch watching ABC's election coverage like the losers that we are all night. I was passed out by about 9:00 but Ryan woke me up a short while later to tell me that he'd gone well over the 270 electoral votes needed to be president. I think the last poll I saw had him hitting somewhere around 350 votes making it a landslide victory. There are of course the "sore loosers" (such as the people who drew horns on a photo of obama and left it in the lunch room - or those who tell me "when you're older you'll understand" as if I'm uneducated b/c of my age) but for the most part, Go team Obama!

But on to the REAL reason for this post: Halloween!

As you ALL should know by know I was really looking forward to it!

Friday night was kind of a pooper in the way of trick-or-treaters. We only had a handful of kids and were expecting SO many more! We had gone all out with over a hundred full-size candy bars from costco and were expecting the majority of them to go - but they didn't. However, we had a good time sitting around the firepit in the driveway passing out candy to those who did make their way to our house.

Saturday was a BUSY day! I woke up and after taking a few minutes to eat some breakfast and got started on a day full of pre-party tasks. I had to finish my costume, make a run to the store for a few party supplies and come home to decorate the house and set everything out.

When I got home from the store Meghan was there and shortly after Bryan and Katy showed up to help get things ready. It was very helpful having them there and they did a great job making suggestions on what to do with certain things and making last minute runs to the store for misc. items. The house looked really awesome with the lights dimmed and the decorations in full swing. I honestly don't think I took any pictures though, so I'm hoping someone else out there has some (Meghan?, Katy?)

Shortly before the party started it was costume time! I took Ryan upstairs first to get his costume on and it turned out great! He dressed up as Bob Big Boy. I made his pants for him from red and white squares of material and painted a shirt to say "big boy". Then of course the costume wasn't complete without dying his hair black and adding the 50's "swoop" to the front of his hair. Once he was stuff with a pillow he was ready for the party! It was adorable! I chuckled every time I saw him in his costume - he looked so... jolly.

Afterwards I got my costume on. I was only half pleased with it (not because of the construction or anything - just not happy with what I was... it could have been better... but oh well). I was Lucy from I Love Lucy. I made myself a black and white polka dot dress with a little apron, and of course the red curly wig. It was "cute".

As we were dressing we started to see what some of the others were and I couldn't wait for everyone to arrive. Bryan's was AWESOME he was dressed at Cap'n crunch and Katy was equally amazing in her energizer bunny costume. John also got ready at our house and was a viking (another costume I made) which turned out great, if I do say so!

Once everyone started showing up, I got the strobe lights and fog machine going to make the entrance way dramatic. It was so neat (in my opinion)! There were really some great costumes including Kevin's Michael Phelps, Barbie's Hawaiian Troll Doll, Meghan and Greg exceeded expectations dressed as an old B&W silent movie couple! There was actually a photo I took of the two of them where I had to look twice b/c I actually thought I had taken it in black and white!

All the great costumes made for some difficult costume contest choices. I can't be certain, but I believe the winners were:

- meghan and greg - best couple
- Bryan - best costume
- barbie - most original
- kevin - funniest
- john's friend _____ - scariest (beetlejuice)
- josh - worst (I'm not sure what he finally decided to be)

Through the night everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was of course slightly lame being sober, but... what can you do? At least I wasn't the only one.

I'll be sure to post pictures of the costumes as I upload them or as I steal them from other people(I know - I've really been slacking on the photos...)
