30 Week Check Up and More

Yesterday was my 30week check up. I was officially 30 weeks and 1 day. In addition to my normal check up I had some blood work to do, so it was a longer-than-normal visit.

I first had to go in and drink a sugar-drink. Then they needed to pull me back an hour later to take some blood and see how my body is handling sugar.

Meanwhile I went into my appointment. It was the normal process, blood pressure (right around 116/86), weight (gained 22 pounds so far), measure the stomach (measured good), listened to the heart beat (147). Apparently this was one of my bigger weight gain months (since my 8lb growth in the early parts of the second trimester) and I was told that while 22 pounds over the course of the whole pregnancy to this point is great, I shouldn’t have big jumps EVERY month. I eat the same stuff, I do the same amount of exercise, I’m not sure how else to regulate my weight...

A little while later I got call back for my blood work. They were testing for a couple of things. First for the sugar levels and second for antibodies and finally iron.

Sugar and Iron were normal tests for all pregnant woman at this point. The antibody test was because of my blood type. Basically with my blood type I have potential to create antibodies that would ultimately treat my baby like a foreign object that my body would try to fight off if our blood ever mixed (my blood type can be given to anyone, but can only take the same type). So, they first tested to see if I had created any of these antibodies towards the baby and in addition I have to go for a shot of Rogham that will stop me from doing this for the remainder of the pregnancy. Some pretty crazy stuff!

My next appointment is in two weeks – I will start going ever two weeks and eventually once a week until the end of the pregnancy – which means I’m close to the end.

In other news we got the ceiling fan for the baby’s room in yesterday! Can’t wait to hang it up!

AND we started taking our delivery classes on Wednesday. Basically you learn the stages of labor, signs of pre-term labor, false vs. actual labor, transition into parenthood, what to expect as far as postpartum hormones, etc. The first class was pretty interesting (and graphic – eeeeek). We have 2 more classes every Wednesday for the next two weeks. Then we will be taking a breastfeeding class as well.

AND! My shower is next weekend! It’s all becoming very “real” (as if having something living inside of me wasn’t “real” enough).
