"Phlumph"
That's the best way to describe it.
It's the sound of Jude's fruit-of-choice hitting the floor beneath his high chair.
"Phlumph" is usually followed by some scraping/shuffling and licking sounds. Those sounds do not come from Jude though, they are the sounds of my all-to-lazy dog getting up from wherever he may be and going after Jude's left overs.
Buddy can be under the high chair, on the couch, or in another room or floor entirely and he will hear these sounds and come running.
I remember when a friend came over a few months back and was feeding her child Cherrios. There was a trail left behind and Buddy was unaware. I was told that in their house, this just doesn't happen. Their dog KNOWS what food sounds like falling to the floor from their childs tiny fingers. Their dog KNOWS it's his/her job to keep the floor looking shiny (or at least crumb free). Our dog would learn. And he has.

are you talking about me and my maggie???? our dogs aren't dumb
I realized how nice it was to have a dog to clean up after the kids when we took Braxton a restaurant about a year ago and he was throwing food all over the floor. I was thinking "where is a dog when you need one" So I felt guilty and picked it all up off the floor. Rick thought I was nuts and said "they pay people to do that" or when we visited my sister in Florida.
