Ring and Rink

Yesterday when I got into work, I was offered free tickets to a Flyers game. Since we didn't have any solid plans for the evening, I accepted even though neither Ryan nor I are big sports fans at all.

For a little background information: Ryan and I had gone to a Flyers game awhile back. We had tickets to the "master card suite" which was WAY WAY up in the top of the arena with a great view of the whole rink. Well, by the time we got about midway through the second period Ryan was passed out (tired, not drunk).

But anyway - after leaving work I headed to Robbin's Jewelry store to pick up Ryan and I's wedding bands which we had recently dropped of for engraving. It was really exciting seeing them all completed and in their boxes ready for May 17th.

Afterwards I headed home. I was deadset on a cheesesteak. Ryan and I discussed going to Gino's or Pat's in Philly, but decided against it and stuck with what we knew (mmm Capprioti's). Then it was off to the game.

When we got there, we had great parking right in front of the Wachovia Center. Not to mention, we had GREAT seats! We sat about 13 rows up directly behind the goal. We were even happier to realize that it was the net that the flyers would be scoring on for 2 of the 3 periods - and later shoot on to win the game in over time. Not only was it a great view, but we were sitting next to a very knowledgable fan who was coaching his date through the whole game (explaining the plays, etc) so for us unknowledgable sports people, it was helpful to follow along.

The game was very high paced and kept my attention for sure. Not to mention the fans yelling and cheering really helped things a lot. And, like I said before, the flyers won with a great shot on goal in over time with a final score of 3-2.

In the end, I still wouldn't call myself a sports/hockey fan. I will not be tracking them on TV through the season and learning the players names, positions and numbers. I will not block of their game days on my calendar and refuse to leave the couch except during commericals. But unlike the last time I left thinking that going back for another game wouldn't be a bad idea - perhaps showing some flyers spirit with a T-shirt or orange and black layering. Maybe even getting a group of friends together to go up together with "let's go flyers" written on cardboard to make it on the Fan Cam. All are good options.
