25 Weeks and 2 days

Yesterday was my 25 week appointment (I think there was supposed to be a 24 week, not a 25 week, but I got off a week since I had to reschedule one – no biggie).

It went much like any other appointment. We go in, wait in the waiting room. Get my weight and blood pressure and wait in a room (a lot of weight/waiting). See the doctor for five minutes and out the door we go.

So far my progress seems pretty good. I’ve gained about four pounds since my last appointment, bringing my total weight gain to this point somewhere around 14lbs. She didn’t comment on my weight and it seems to be on track with what everything I read says is good. She measured my stomach and said that I’m measuring good. In addition she discussed my recent ultrasound and said everything still seems good and Jude looks to be healthy.

We had a brief discussion about traveling since Ryan and I have a trip coming up and she said I should be fine and gave me a copy of my records in case I had any problems (I also found out she’d be in Disney the same week so maybe I could just call her instead? Kidding…).

Next we discussed a few other things that were a bit of a eye opener that we’re really getting closer to the end! She mentioned that I need to start working on getting a pediatrician on file. They require that I have my pediatrician picked out in advance and that I have it on file with them and ready for when the baby is delivered. I mentioned that there was one right near her and she said that she’s always heard good things about them. We also discussed a few questions we should bring up to them when interviewing (style of healthcare, discuss breastfeeding options, child rearing advice, etc) and she said that really it’s just more a personality choice – aka finding someone you can communicate well with. Sounded good to me!

Next she advised us that we should look into registering for our classes at the hospital and that typically woman take these classes around the 30 week mark. There were three classes in particular I was interested in taking. One is a basic labor and delivery class with a tour of the hospital, the other is a breastfeeding how-to class and the third a newborn care class. I plan to call some time in the next week (maybe today?) to get more info on times/dates so I can plan for them accordingly.
