Christmas In July

Question: Do you think you will mail out Christmas cards now that you have Jude?

Answer:

When I was younger (like high school age) I got so excited about Christmas! My friends and I all exchanged gifts and of course I got a huge stack of Christmas cards and gave them to all my friends (and probably plenty of people who could care less). I still get excited about Christmas, but not the way I used to. I feel like every year my excitement continues to decrease – usually due to being poor. I mean the whole excitement for me is in exchanging gifts, wrapping, get together – not even so much getting, but giving. As my excitement decreased, I stopped getting Christmas cards and as a result stopped giving them out.

I always wanted to send out picture gift cards and the year we went to Cedar Point I was so excited that we saw the Christmas Story House, that I thought for sure I’d use one of our pictures from there on our Christmas card. But we didn’t.

So, when making my list of 101 I made a point to put on there that I would send out Christmas Cards. No offense to anyone out there, but Ryan’s convinced that photo cards are lame (even though I can think of two in particular that he was thrilled to receive). I personally think they’re adorable and would love to send out pictures of Jude to everyone, but I know there will be resistance.

Either way, I hope to send out Christmas cards this year for sure.

On a side note about Christmas – I am half hoping that this Christmas will be our “skip celebrating x-mas and make a donation” year. The only problem is it’s Jude’s first Christmas, so wouldn’t be fair to him… but as he gets older it will only make it more difficult to do… Opinions? I was thinking maybe say Jude can get one special gift and the rest would go to donations… but I’m not sure if that would be cheating.
