"Hey (St.) Jude (Law)"

The Question: Do I get a lot of Hey Jude references?
I'm not sure at which point I decided I like the name Jude... But when I did I was pretty stuck on it. When thinking of names while I was pregnant, I personally had two names I loved:
Jude Michael (Michael for Ryan's dad) and Laurie Marie (I wanna say Marie is Ryan's mom's middle name).
I shared my personal choices with Ryan and he really seemed to think they were good. At some point Ryan said he liked "Logan" over Laurie, so since I had basically picked out the names myself and I also liked Logan we decided that we'd probably do Logan over Laurie (but I'm thinking that decision would come at the last minute).
But back to Jude.

When I tell people his name I always get some interesting responses:
1. Confusion: Some people think I said "June" not "Jude" and I've actually been asked to SPELL his name. They think he's a boy - and think "June's" a girl's name so don't know what to say next. This is usually a weird response since I think "Jude" is such a simple name and never thought people would be confused

2. Interest: A lot of people respond saying they really like it or think it's interesting (is that code for lame?) or that it's a great name but you don't hear it very often!

3. Saint: When we decided on Jude I didn't even THINK about St. Jude, but I actually get A LOT of "oh! a biblical name" responses. If anything Ryan and I had joked at one point about putting "Judas" on his birth certificate and calling him Jude for short. But we figured that wouldn't go over too well - and I would never think to call him that in public.

4. Laying Down the Law: I thought for sure that it'd be very rare for someone to make the connection between Jude and Jude Law. But I of course was wrong. A surprising large number of people have commented "oh so you like Jude Law!". While I do like Jude Law, he really didn't have much to do with the selection.

and of course....

5. "Hey Jude": Without a doubt I get a lot of "Hey Jude"responses. People ask if I like the Beatles or if I got the name from the song, or they often start singing it. All very sweet responses. While I'm sure part of me made the decision while listening to Hey Jude, I'm not 100% sure it was JUST because of the song that I chose it (meaning I didn't pick it BECAUSE I like the song) but it had a little to do with the decision.

Whatever the reason... and whatever the connection... I love the name and I think it's a perfect fit for our precious little man.

I've 1/2 jokingly and 1/2 seriously told Ryan if we/when we have another kid we should name them from other Beatles songs.

For a Boy: Max (Maxwell's Silver Hammer)

For a Girl: Prudence (Dear Prudence) or (of course) Lucy (Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds)

But do you really want a "theme" for your kids names???

the thought of you and ryan have a child with a biblical name makes me chuckle.

What about "judy". I have heard a people call him that (eeek, including myself on accident). Why do people feel the need to ALWAYS add a "y" to baby names.

you should know, and let everyone know, that the Beatles song was not even after anyone named Jude. the song was written for Julian.

Yes, annon. was correct... written for Julian during the divorce, etc. We saw the original lyrics in the R&R Hall of Fame
