Ryan and I are very happy with Jude's room. When we initially designed it, it was intended to be a room that could grow with him through the years. We started with subtle hints of airplanes and as we transitioned to his 'big boy bed', added some sports blankets and things that are currently of interest to him. The walls are a simple primary color design that can easily work with anything. The walls are not overly decorated, but have a map of the solar system and his name - that's about it. We placed lighting for the possibility of a desk in the future, etc.
When coming up with a plan for this second nursery, we knew that similar ideas would be necessary for us. We again picked out a crib that would grow to a full size bed and I picked a design for the walls that will 'pop'. We've decided against buying any themed crib packages and instead are adding little accents that will give it a theme, but not hold you to it.
So, what ARE we doing?
First of all, here's his crib (which I LOVE) we ordered this a few weeks ago along with the dresser and it should be in shortly before Liam's arrival:
Here is the idea for the room:
OK, no, it's not going to be purple, but the general wall design is what I'm talking about. Instead of the purple, we're going to do a deep (but not too dark) green on one wall with lighter green stripes - and the other walls will be the opposite.
This picture doesn't show it too well, but Ryan also plans to make shelves similar to the ones in the bottom right hand corner of this picture (the boxed ones):
Finally, the 'theme' is going to be dinosaurs. When we went to pick out the crib, we came across these really cute dinosaur hooks for the walls. They are different types of dinosaurs (triceratops, stegosaurus, brontosaurus) in three different colors that will essentially set the theme for the room. In addition I'm searching for a quilt pattern that I like - I've found a few, but haven't set my mind on any one just yet - but the pattern will be dinosaur related. I haven't really thought too much about what I want for window treatments, but I think we'll do curtain that coordinate with the paint - maybe light green on the dark wall and darker green on the lighter walls?
In addition to all of these ideas we have tons of the 'boring' things to do - new windows, new doors, electric work, a ceiling fan, etc. In short, we should be pretty busy once we get started! As with Jude's room, I'm really excited to get this room going! I really think it's going to turn out great - and of course getting another room of our house finished is ALWAYS exciting!
