Recently, Jude has become fascinated with the moon. Once the sun goes down and he sees it for the first time, it's all he seems to want to talk about. He has on more than one occasion in the past week had us take him outside so he can search for it in the sky... and then stare at it in wonder.
Being that I love to feed into the things that seem to be enchanting to him at any given time, I found one of the few books in our personal library that had much of anything to really do with the moon. It's called "The Way Back Home". Basically the story is about a little boy who stumbles upon an airplane and decides to go out flying. he flies higher and higher until he runs out of gas and is 'forced' to land on the moon. Once on the moon he meets a Martian - who seems to also be having some trouble with his space ship... and they both help each other get home.
Well, it's safe to say that this story has completely taken over Jude's mind. He has a wooden airplane that he got from my parents that's large enough for him to ride - it's one of the only toys we keep in his bedroom and it's there specifically because he has an airplane theme room. Well, the past two mornings, he's woken up with no other purpose than to fix his airplane for his journey to the moon. Currently he has it parked in Liam's room, piled up with wrenches and screws and paint brushes (?) for the fixin'. We've talked about the propellers and the tail and the wings and how his plane has to be in ship-shop shape before heading off to the moon, because not every little boy is lucky enough to run into a martian if he breaks down.
I'm not sure when he plans to take off, but I'm sure it's going to be a grand event.
