Yesterday, Meghan, Michele and myself took a trip to New York. NOTHING worked out that we had planned but we still had a really good time.
We headed out of Delaware around 8:30 to catch the Hamilton train to Penn Station. Our goals for the day were: visit the Statue of Liberty, experience Central Park, see "Spring Awakening".
We catch the appropriate trains down to the ferry for Ellis Island, see lots of people standing around in line, watch some people dressed like fake Statues of Liberty and go get in line for our ferry pass. At which time we read a sign that advises up that while they were still offering ferry passes to the island, the were out of tickets to enter the statue. Hmmm. Bummer. But we took some funny pictures from where we were displaying just how close we were and wondered on.
We decided to do a little walking to see some stores and sights along the way. We stopped at some stores for shopping, got a quick lunch, and just wandered. On our way up towards Central Park, we stopped to see "ground zero" and were amazed at how much rubble will still hanging around in the huge hole that used to be a building. One would think after all this time it'd be pretty much done. After taking a few moments there we ventured on.
When we arrived in the Time Square area, we got a phone call that all of the Broadway shows were cancelled. Stage Hand strike. Bummer. No show for these ladies. My whole vision of seeing a show on broadway - over. But we recovered quickly from our disappointment and decided to do some more wandering. We chatted with some strikers, went to the Hershey store and continued our walk towards the park.
Once there we busted out the cameras again and shot some silly pictures. Being that it gets dark so early, by the time we got there around 5:30 it was dark and all the lights were on. We saw the ice skating rink and the "lagoon" (catcher in the rye anyone?) took some more pictures and headed toward "5th ave."
While there I expereinced FAO Scwartz for the first time. They were putting on some keyboard shows. The had so many cute toys which made me wish I had a little girl for the day who i could help make a barbie for (they had a computer where you dress barbie and then they prepare her and model her on the "runway" and then package her up for you. I loved it. At this point Kathy met up with us and we were getting hungry.
From there we wandered into an adorable little Italian restaurant. It was so cute. They had some bizarre meal options (like Meghan's pear ravioli) but everything was really amazingly good. We ate, desserted and then it was time to start heading home. We were worn out for all of our walking and since the show was cancelled it seemed appropriate to make it an earlier night then expected.
It was such a fun day. It was great to spend time with my friends and do something out of the ordinary.
When we got home, we told Ryan all about our day - at which point he wanted to go the a diner and get "coffee" - an odd request. So to the diner we went. Then... bed.
A fun day all together. Perhaps we'll make it back up some time to REALLY see the show.
