Another luxary we left behind when leaving New Castle was the convenience of hard-wired lighting. We had ceiling fans, decorative track lighting, recessed fixtures and surface mount fixtures through out our home making lighting as simple as flicking a switch.
Our new house has some of this in the main living spaces (which will all be replaced), but not one of the bedrooms has a ceiling fan or built in lighting. Since we never needed table-top lamps, we've been struggling the past week or so to see in our bedroom (often using the light from the master bathroom to illuminate the bed-area).
However, a few days ago Ryan and I went out to get a new ceiling fan for our bedroom. Last night he worked his magic to get it installed. Unlike some homes where the wires are already ran and it's as simple as hanging the fan, he had to navigate the wiring in the room and get power to the center of the ceiling. It didn't take too long to do and in the end, we had a lovely functioning light in our room!
It was amazing to me how much easier it was to wake up this morning with the extra light in the room. The past couple of weeks have brought a later sunrise which also meant less natural light flooding through the windows and the general darkness tells my body "keep sleeping".
So much more to do, but it was nice getting started!

And there was light!
