It was hard for me to decide what my #1 priority should be when putting things away in the house. My two most obvious options to start with were the kitchen and the master bedroom (aka clothes!). You have to eat and you have to wear clothes.
I initially started with the master bedroom. I got through about 1/2 of my clothing boxes in one night and decided I had enough to get us through to the end of the week. So, I decided to move on to the other top project: THE KITCHEN!
Anyone who knows me, knows my love for kitchen gadgets, fancy glassware, small appliances, and other items that only serve one purpose (generally sitting on a shelf for months at a time unused). However, I even surprised myself when unpacking the "kitchen" boxes last night. I have something in this house that I didn't have before: a pantry! Not just one, but two! I thought for sure they would solve my storage problems, but it sure didn't. One was quickly filled with food after my massive move-in grocery order and the other quickly filled with alcohol bottles, an assortment of cake pans, small appliances and soooo much more.
Then on to filling the cabinets. I'll first say that Ryan and I have every intention of putting remodeling the kitchen somewhere near the top of our house project list (along with all of the 70's style bathrooms, living rooms, dining room, bedrooms, etc). It's not attractive. It came with a variety of outdated and inefficient appliances and unattractive cabinets and counter tops (and don't get me started on the floor and light fixtures). I'll admit that I've been very spoiled with our old kitchen which was remodeled immediatly after moving in and was pretty much everything I wanted it to be (other than large enough for all my stuff).
Anyway, I had this vision when we bought this house that I wouldn't put my kitchen stuff away until we had remodeled the kitchen into our dream kitchen but because we're waiting to sell our house, it's definitly not happening like I had hoped. So, last night Katy and I did a good cleaning out of the inside of the cabinets and started unpacking boxes I was shocked as i start pulling things out that I didn't even remember owning.
Even the cabinets are filling up quickly now and everywhere I turn there are more and more boxes labeled 'kitchen'. I must say it's exciting and almost like christmas seeing all of my things again.
