A busy – and semi-successful – weekend

This weekend I really was feeling the itch to get some stuff done and feel slightly accomplished.

Friday I started with a little shopping around linens ‘n things. They’re going out of business so I thought I’d browse around and see what they had (if anything). I found a nice comforter set I really wanted, but unfortunately they didn’t have all the pieces I’d need. Next I found an area rug (which I bought) that will hopefully match whatever I end up doing in my bedroom. If not, it’s pretty basic colors that should go in another room. Finally I searched for some curtains for our front living room and was unsuccessful. I called it a night with the area rug.

Saturday was about the same. I woke up and unpacked a number of the boxes in our garage. It’s amazing how many odds and ends we had that I’ve totally forgotten about. It started to give me a few decorating ideas for different rooms of the house so I distributed a few of the items to the different areas to start some brain storming. I decided the front living room would be the easiest and fastest to get done (a little paint, some new outlets and covers, curtains and hang some pictures). I had every intention of buying paint on Saturday and painting all day Sunday, but figured it’d be smart to buy curtains first and match the paint to them.

I started with Walmart (think cheap!), but the store was packed and I refused to go in. Instead I went to Kohls – who apparently doesn’t carry curtains. Next I tried Home Depot – the HD I went to didn’t carry them either – I was getting frustrated. Next I tried the mall – Macy’s ALSO doesn’t carry curtains. On to JC Penney – they had one set I liked but was just too much (go figure). Then I had the genius idea to just make them myself! I head on over to Joann Fabrics and start hunting. By this point I was tired and frustrated and just couldn’t concentrate so I just went home and figured I’d figure it out later. I unpacked a few more boxes took a nap and called it a day.

Sunday I was determined to be a little more successful. I again started with the boxes in the garage. I kept pulling out serving dishes, large photos, knick knacks and more. Knowing my kitchen was already full I knew the serving dishes had no where to go. So when Ryan got home from work we carried the large bookshelves that came in our soon-to-be-nursery into the basement. It was the perfect storage for all of the random kitchen gadgets I don’t use on a day-to-day basis – it filled up quickly. Next, I cleaned out the pantry a little to give everything a little more space.

Later in the day Bryan came over because he wanted to hang some Christmas decorations. He doesn’t have anywhere to really hang any around his apartment, so thought he could live through us. He brought over a large blow-up snowman for the front yard and found a box of lights in our basement to hang on the roof. In addition we pulled out Christmas stockings and other odds and ends to put around the house. All the decorating got me in the mood for some cookie making so we also pulled out all the necessary ingredients for chocolate chip cookies and made a few batches.

Even with all of this, we were all sitting on the couch relaxing by 7:30ish. A yummy end to the weekend.
