Even More Progress

This weekend, Ryan and I had plans to get more stuff done around the house.

Our goals going into the weekend were as follows:

- Finish wiring the living room
- Start/Finish wiring the baby’s room
- Patch up/fix the walls in the baby’s room to get ready for paint and chair rail
- Purchase and start hanging the chair rail
- Sand/Paint the walls in the living room

Again, it was a pretty ambitious list and we didn’t finish everything, but we got a good start.

Saturday we woke up and ran out for breakfast. While we were out we made a quick trip to Babies R Us to gather some ideas or how we’d like things set up in the room (furniture size, etc). After walking around there a little bit we headed home to get a later-than-expected start on the list. We laid out receptacles, discussed lighting and fan placement and Ryan cut the holes needed before getting up in the attic. Before we knew it we were out of wire and only about ½ way done. We didn’t get nearly as much accomplished that day as we’d hoped so knew Sunday would need to be a little more productive.

Sunday we woke up early and were supposed to meet our buddy Pat for breakfast. After a quick meal we were home to start some more work. Ryan’s dad ended up coming over and took care of sanding the already patched walls in the living room. Once he was done he primed the walls with a coat of white paint and pretty much called it a day. While he was there though, his friend Tony stopped by to look at the progress around the house. We mentioned some of our ideas and told him we’d be putting some recessed lights around the house. He just happened to have a case of six cans and six trims that he wasn’t using and offered them to us! Sweet! So he brought them over for us to install.

Ryan on the other hand started a project not on the list. He took down the Christmas lights and cleaned the gutters since we hadn’t gotten any more wire and it was a decent day for being on the roof. Afterwards we touched up some of the walls in the baby’s room and cleaned up the floor space. By the time we were done that, the first coat of paint downstairs was dry and it was time to reapply. So, Ryan took care of the last coat and we cleaned up all of the drywall dust and everything else around the room.

Today Ryan plans to get some more wire and finish the wiring in the two rooms through the week so we can start decorating each of the rooms this weekend. It’ll be exciting to get some colorful paint on the walls and see the two spaces come together. Not to mention I’m eager to hang some of pictures and other items to make the house a little more homey.
