The Finishing Touches

Coming up with the general plan for the nursery was pretty easy once we finalized a theme (AIRPLANES!). I had a good idea of where I wanted certain things placed (furniture, etc) and how I wanted the end results to look. However, gathering the last of the parts for the room is seeming difficult.

I really wanted a classic rocking chair for the nursery. Gliders are apparently all women want any more so everywhere you go there’s nothing but gliders! I was fortunate however to have been offered a rocking chair as a hand-me-down. My grandmom has a bunch of furniture she’s accumulated for a number of deceased relatives that she just can’t seem to get rid of. While at her house shortly after finding out I was pregnant she offered me the rocking chair and I was excited to accept. This past weekend my dad dropped off the re-finished rocking chair. It goes just right with the rest of the room.

Today I ordered the last of the furniture (the dresser and the running boards for when we turn the crib into a “big bed”). I was relieved when I called Babies R Us to see if the dresser was available and they said yes! I had been checking on it for a few weeks now and it just came available in the last couple of days and ½ of the ones they had in stock were already gone. I hope it comes in, in good shape and quickly so I can finish putting the room together.

Next we needed a ceiling fan. We found one we loved (the fantasy flyer) and I was lucky enough to find one for sale on e-bay for ½ the price! It should be in any day now for us to install!

The last things I need are some shelves for the books we’ve bought a couple of pictures and an area rug.

I’ve found the shelves I want and am convinced I can make them for a fraction of the price. Some time this week I want to take a trip to home depot to gather the pieces and put them together.

Next are the pictures. Ryan and I want to get two framed photos of old planes to hang on either side of the window in the nursery. We just can’t seem to finalize our selection (art.com has just too many options!). We have gone online at least 10 times and put together a couple of different options and always decide to come back after we’ve had time to think about it.

Finally, the area rug! I’m having the hardest time deciding what texture, color, style, size, etc to chose! I found one at potterybarnkids.com but am not convinced it’s “the one”. We went to airbase carpet mart last night and were totally overwhelmed. We found what I would call the perfect rug, but it was special order and just too much money for something that just lays there… I plan to spend some time online tonight hunting for a good deal.

Other than those three items, it’s really coming together… I can’t wait for it to be done so I can start putting things away and getting everything situated.
