My Little Carpenter

This past Sunday Ryan and I wanted to make a little more progress on the nursery. As I had posted before, we bought a number of children’s books, so we needed somewhere to store them conveniently near the rocking chair my dad refinished for us for easy access.

I had browsed around online and found some shelves I loved at Pottery Barn Kids. Like most items at Pottery Barn, they were a little on the pricey side and I found myself repeating my mom’s favorite catch phrase “do you know how easy that would be to make!” Not to mention they were sold in painted colors, and it would be better to paint them to match the colors already in the room. So, Friday night after work I went to Home Depot and picked up the materials we’d need. The shelves I had seen online were selling for 55+ dollars each, I got the materials for both shelves for about 35 dollars. Go team me!

Sunday we pulled out some supplies and Ryan got to work. I showed him what I was trying to accomplish and told him my plan behind it and it was up to him to make it work. He did SUCH a great job! We were both very pleased with the way they turned out! Once he was done the construction of them I put a couple of coats of paint on and we hung them in the nursery. They look great! I’ll post pictures once I get some uploaded. The paint was still a little tacky when we hung them, so I plan to go home today and put things away on the shelves for the finished look.

Also on Sunday we were able to hang the airplane ceiling fan that we got last week. It was much bigger than I had imagined, but it looks really neat! Again, Ryan did a great job! We were joking that this kid better love airplanes or else we’ll have a lot of work ahead of us breaking down the fan.

Things left:
- Pick up dresser
- Area Rug
- Pictures
- Window treatments
- Hang “JUDE” letters (after the dresser is put in the room)

I’m very hopeful that they’ll call to tell me the dresser is in this week so the room will be done to show off at the shower this weekend!
