I always try to keep Jude's diet healthy. We avoid unnaturally sweet, super salty, super processed foods and try to stick to fruits, veggies, meats, grains and just non-greasy goodness. That's not to say I don't give him tiny bites of my ice cream or small bits of whipped cream or that he's never tasted a chicken finger - I do pass on things like hot dogs, fast food and pizza when it comes to feeding Jude.
Ryan and I are big pasta/dairy fans and as I'm trying to balance Jude's diet, I'm realizing just how little meat we eat. Being that I want Jude to get the protein he needs, awhile ago I tossed around the idea of introducing tofu into his diet. Tofu, like a number of other things I've given Jude is one of those things that I personally turn my nose up to. It's also one of those things that I knew when I brought home, Ryan would look at me like "tofu? seriously?". He'd see it as another one of my 'new age hippie' choices. I was right. But either way, I bought tofu and I fed it to Jude.
I had poked around trying to find ways to prepare tofu and basically I'm finding that all it really does is absorbs the flavors of things around it. Otherwise it's pretty bland.
Well, on day, I was in a rush at lunch time and decided to just toss the tofu on his try and see what he did with it. It was cold, uncooked, and still in it's original cubed shape. He poked. He played. He put it in his mouth. He spit it back out. He looked it over carefully. He put it back in his mouth. He then began to devour the rest of it.
Apparently Jude loves tofu.
I kept it in the fridge uncooked, and we gave it to Jude with lunches and dinners and each time he had the same response. Needless to say, it's something I will be regularly stocking in our fridge... but maybe in the future we'll prepare it with a little flavor :)
