Well, I'm 19 weeks today. This week has been a 'big' baby week in that I had a routine check up (wednesday) and my Ultrasound (today/Friday). As a result, I have quite a bit of news to report.
First of all, the appointment went well (as expected). I was in and out very quickly and got to meet another doctor in the practice. They usually like to have you see all the doctors through the coarse of your pregnancy, but with Jude, some how I pretty much managed to bounce back and forth between my doctor and one other. I liked the experience with Jude's pregnancy because I really got to know my doctor (and then was lucky enough to deliver on a day that she was in the hospital), but this time around I'm making an effort to see more doctors in case I'm not as lucky at the time of delivery. So, the other day I met with one of the two midwifes that my practice has and really enjoyed her. She was super friendly, seemed to cover a lot, asked a lot of questions and just seemed really interested to hear how things were going. I've always had this same type of experience with my doctor - but this particular person was just really sweet.
They did the regular check up type of stuff and I was told that based on my original weight at my first visit and my weight wednesday, I've gained 2lbs total so far. I really thought it'd be more as I personally see where my mid-section is growing, but we've also been moving a lot, so I can see where the rest of me is getting a little more fit. So it balances out.
I don't have another check-up for another month, but I feel the baby moving regularly now, so to some extent I'll know things are going good without them searching for the little ticker inside.
Now on to the fun stuff:
Today we had our ultrasound! Ryan's family has a little bit of a family history that concerns my doctor, so we had to go for a level two ultrasound and go through genetic counseling. We did this with Jude, we've pretty much determined we have nothing to worry about, but they like to do it anyway. We went in with every intention of finding out the gender, so we were THRILLED when within seconds the tech announced it was quite obviously a BOY!
I mean - once I find that out, the ultrasound looses most of it's excitement for me, but I paid very close attention to the process and watched her go through all the parts and saw that everything looks good, measures good and baby appears to be healthy.
So, now that we know the sex, we can now call "baby #2" our Little Liam Clark! Jude will be a big brother to a little boy!
In conclusion, it's been a good week. We look forward to the planning we can do from here, the bedroom we can decorate, etc.
