For awhile now I've been part of a less formal mom's group. It's not so much one of those groups that have a group leader and mapped out events for any given month, it's more or less a group of women who all know each other through different avenues who get together with their kids - let other know what they're up to and try to get others to meet up with them when they're doing things. In the words of my husband, we're a cult and we're lame... but any time you do something that's centered around kids, to some extent, it's going to be pretty lame.
Well, this particular group celebrated Liam - and my pregnancy and pending birth - the other day in the form of a Blessingway. We had done this in the past for a few of the women who were all expecting around the same time, and so we decided it'd be a tradition of some sort as we all continue to grow our families. This time, it was my turn!
The whole event was just perfect in my opinion. It started with some yummy appetizers (that I could hardly eat because I was so full from a picnic we had earlier in the day) and chit chat. It was followed by a 'tradition' we started of all the others to tie on a ribbon that they'd wear until after Liam is born and then they all presented me with a bead or charm that made them think of me in one way or another that would be put into a necklace or bracelet that I could wear during labor... or just wear for fun. Afterwards, they topped it off in the most amazing way possible: with an ice cream buffet complete a whole variety of toppings.
The whole event was lovely and relaxing and was just another reminder of how close we are to the end of this pregnancy - and the beginning of a whole-new-life.
